Nordic Soydiet Tablets
Rainbow Investigations has been recieving many emails and even phone calls about the latest Montreal based diet scam to be exported to the U.S.
This latest promotion, known as High Density Nordic Soybean Tablets, is being mailed out to consumers from mail lists which the fraud artists obtain from magazine subscription lists.
This particular promotion has previously been seen in Canada, with addresses of eastern Ontario mailboxes.
The Canadian version did quote a model role playing as a nurse from New York, calling herself "Mary Hudson". The version we are familiar with even claimed that someone presented the product at an International Symposium, on the role of soy in health and weight loss. This latter claim is complete nonsense.
We don't yet have all the details of the U.S. promotions, or the ingredients, but we know that "Stockholm Capital Laboratories" is again the company name that is being used.
This is the same company name that has been used for the U.S. promotion Supra Svelt Drops (which we are still getting inquiries about). At this point we are assuming that the latest promotion probably continues to use a mailbox in Traverse, Michigan. Then a fulfillment company just south of Traverse cleans out the mailbox, and acts as the agent for the Montreal base fraud artists.
Many people have been asking for contact information on this "company". Not having seen the latest ads, we don't know what number they are using as a customer service number, but in the past, one of the numbers they used was 1-866-361-9725. Of course, this number leads to a place which is a "call centre", but they may provide some limited customer service.
If have had the misfortune to purchase one of these products, by far the best thing to do would be to either put a stop payment on your cheque or try to cancel the transaction through your credit card. Of course, there may be a cost for doing this, but you are ultimately cutting your losses.
If people have more details on the specifics of the latest promotions, email them to us so we can share the info. We would like the phone number being used, address, quoted ingredients and any other claims being made.
Always remember the preferred way to contact us on these matters is by email; we reserve our phone numbers for our private business, to which this is NOT included.
Other than this specific situation, the general diet fraud situation in Canada has greatly improved over the last five years. Encouragingly, the print ads in newspapers and coupon inserts that we saw so much of in 2002-2003 now all appear have gone. Some of our worst offenders from years ago have been all clean lately.
The remaining problem now is clearly these direct mail outs from mail lists.
We know the Competition Bureau in Canada is working in this area; they have always kept their distance from us, which is fine. All we care about is that the situation does appear to getting better for the consumer.
In closing, keep us up to date on these developments, and we will continue to post these stories. We apologize for the small lapse we had in getting stories out.
